An Original Rock Oratorio

INVITATION TO ATTEND STUDENT MATINEE
FRIDAY, APRIL 11, 2025 | 9:30-11:00 AM
CHARLES W. EISEMANN CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS

From Jonathan:

We are delighted to invite you and your students to a very special, student-only matinee performance of Shelter Me: An Original Rock Oratorio on Friday, April 11, at 9:30-11:00 AM at Richardson’s Charles W. Eisemann Center for Performing Arts. This one-hour performance is free of charge and open exclusively to students, teachers, and chaperones, with free bus parking provided.

Featuring nearly 300 performers—including the Dallas Street Choir, the Credo Community Choir, The UT Dallas choirs, professional soloists, and an 18-piece orchestra—Shelter Me explores the profound realities of homelessness through music that is both thought-provoking and deeply moving. After the performance, there will be a brief talkback session with the composer and lead performers, offering your students a unique opportunity to engage with the work on a deeper level.

As a former secondary music educator, I can assure you the content is both age-appropriate and impactful for middle and high school students. To help you prepare your students, I will share a resource guide in advance, including the full libretto, cast biographies, and materials to foster meaningful discussions about homelessness and how it affects all of us.

Homelessness touches everyone in some way, whether through direct experience or passing those living unhoused as we go about our daily lives. This performance is not just about music; it’s about understanding, empathy, and connection.

Seating is limited, so I encourage you to reserve your spot as soon as possible. If you have any questions or need additional details, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to welcoming you and your students to this extraordinary event.
